Overview of the organization
SIXKNM is a Kenyan grassroots young community development organization registered by Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development on 29th October 2012 as self-help group number NKU/DSS/SHG/15861. SIXKNM was founded by seven individuals (3 men and 4 women) who are firm and passionate in their desire for growth and development in Kenya and has three main programs namely governance, health and energy & natural resources management (ENRM). SIXKNM works with grassroots women, men & youth to sharpen community engagement and development discourse. SIXKNM constitute membership drawn from diverse rural young professionals and has built reputable networks and trust with residents of Nyeri and neighboring counties. SIXKNM works with poor rural farming communities to help them choose and use innovative practices to improve their lives for today and generations to come. Our work is people focused, locally relevant and environmentally sensitive offering tangible ways out of poverty. Through our work we share knowledge, climate smart practices and influence change. We place emphasis on initiatives that deliver on economic and social capital plus environment conservation. We incorporate strategies to provide sustainable agroforestry based alternative livelihoods to build the resilience of resource to impacts of climate-change or upscale sustainable agroforestry practices proven to be effective in conservation. The organisation is led by a Executive Committee of three members (1 Man, 1 Youth and 1 woman) and has since established a secretariat that is headed by Executive Director. Others in the secretariat include Finance Officer, Programs Coordinator, a Program Officer, and volunteers.

Description of the organisation’s decision-making structure:
The Executive Committee is the highest policy and management decision-making body of SIXKNM Self-Help Group. The organisation is led by an Executive Committee of three members (1 Man, 1 Youth and 1 woman) and has since established a secretariat that is headed by Executive Director. Others in the secretariat include Finance Officer, Programs Coordinator, a Program Officer, and volunteers. The Executive committee meets two times a year composed of the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The decisions of the Executive Committee are implemented by a secretariat headed by an Executive Director. Currently the secretariat comprises of 3 technical and professional staff and two support staff.
