On-going and Completed Projects
a) With support from National Geographic Society under the COVID 19 Remote Learning Emergency Fund for Educators in year 2021, SIXKNM is implementing a project that converts five cyber kiosks in rural town centers of Nakuru, Kenya to offer a cyber home learning system that provides offline digital learning materials to be disseminated, shared, and uploaded in available hardware. The project target 2500 upper primary and high schools’ students in Nakuru, Kenya and encourages self-directed learning among students to bridge education divide.
b) With support from Peace Direct based in UK under the Digital Inclusion Fund in year 2020, fifteen peace advocates from SIXKNM are now equipped with solar powered satellite phones meaning they can communicate with residents at the first signs of unrest. This work to spot the early warning signs of violence, and alert local authorities. This saves lives.
c) In year 2018, SIXKNM funded by SAT-EANNASO through Her Voice implemented “Advocacy for Adolescents and Young Women Health Rights Project” in Nakuru County, Kenya. The project supported establishment of three adolescents living with HIV support groups and empowered 30 champions from among the support groups to air issues and concerns that affect adolescents living with HIV to relevant actors. This has created a good opportunity to ensure adolescents’ and young women health rights issues are included in Nakuru County SRH policies.
d) With support from Imarisha Kenya an NGO based in Kenya in year 2018, SIXKNM conducted empowerment trainings to thirty SIXKNM peace advocates. This initiative empowered thirty peace advocates with advocacy skills in enabling them to create a culture of peace and non-violence and prevention of conflict, cattle rustling and banditry amongst communities living in Baringo County.
e) In year 2019, SIXKNM was sub-granted by Imarisha Kenya, an NGO based in Kenya to implement 12 months project dubbed as “Advocacy for Animal Rights and Welfare in Nakuru County’’.
f) SIXKNM partnered with East Africa Farmers Federation (EAFF) under the project ‘Scaling Up Rural Youth Access to Inclusive Financial Services for Entrepreneurship and Employment project (2018-2020)’.
g) In year 2018, SIXKNM was awarded $ 1000 USD by The Pollination Project to implement a project dubbed as ‘Faecal Waste Briquettes Production and Marketing for Households and Small Businesses in Kenya (2018)
